Club Champs....and Club Politics....

Sunday 18th August....and the day of the Club Handicap Champs 2013..

I have put up some pics....

I have learned a few valuable lessons from organising the day....and they are:

1. My club is made up of two very distinct groups of people....those that do....and those that really cant be bothered.
2. Some of my club make some bloody good food!

Many thanks to everyone who helped make it happen and I hope everyone enjoyed the day!

Training day - where are we?

With reaching MB unlikely this season and with next season in mind, today was a chance to shoot a FITA at the club and see where I am - plus work on a few areas I have not been happy with - namely my loose and follow through.

An 8.00am start, with little wind, was on the cards.  So, with the target up at 90m, off I went.  The first thing I noticed was that, perhaps, a change of limb is in order.  Currently I shoot the SF Elite Carbon Foam limbs which are 38lbs @ 28.  Given my draw length, that puts 41lbs on my fingers.  These are paired with Easton Carbon One arrows.  Whilst a decent pair of limbs (stable and smooth), they lack the speed that I would like.  This results in the arrows "pondering" their way down to the 90m mark....and with any wind around I feel like I would achieve more with a shotgun!!!

Anyway, back to the shooting - 90m felt ok and I finished with a split of 240 for the 3 doz (which broke down to doz scores of 79, 72 & 89).  It all felt nice, but there was the odd arrow out in black and white....not good enough!

On to 70m and the wind picking up a little.  But at least I can get my sight out to full extension.  My first doz came in at 104, so I was happy....but into the next 2 doz, I noticed that my loose and follow through were not what they should be.  I know that at times I rotate the drawing hand at the point of loose, but doz scores of 93 & 89 made me realise that I do this more often than not......still, finished the 3 doz with a split of 286....not the magic 300 I wanted.

50m and I forgot how small the face suddenly seems to be.....and doz scores of 99, 90 & 96 are.....ok....but not much more!  I noticed that I snatched the odd loose, which didn't help.  Again work is required!  Split was 285.

I felt happiest at 30m and a split of 337 was keeping me happy (doz's of 112, 113 & 112).  I dropped 10 points through bad shots.....you know the one...
"Should I come down or not"....and then loose and think "bugger, I should have come down and re-set".

So a final score of 1148...which, although a club record, was 52 points short of where I wanted to be.

Work to be done on my loose and follow through........any advice and training ideas welcome!!!

Next week is the club handicap champs (Westerns for all), which I have organised, so not looking to shoot seriously.

Me and where I am at....

Essex County Champs 2013

So, there we go, that's me....
Back into shooting after a break of several years.  When I left the sport in 2006, I was not enjoying my shooting, for many reasons....politics within the sport being a large one!
But as of 2012, I came back, and I am seriously enjoying it.
So, in my first season back, I made Bowmen and am pushing hard for Master Bowmen, which, I hope, will be achieved at the Bedfordshire County Champs on 4th August 2013.
